All screenings will be taking place at Village East Cinemas & director's guild of America (DGA) in New York City and at the Goethe institute in Washington D.C.

TESIYAP (Turkish Film and Television Producers Guild) is organizing a series
of Turkish films in New York City. Mrs. MINE VARGI, host and chairperson of
TESIYAP, will be arriving in the United States from Turkey with many Turkish
directors, producers and actors to welcome American audiences to experience Turkish culture through a selection of films that will be screened. TESIYAP is leading the way in encouraging a dialogue with the international film community, including both industry insiders and film lovers.
We are happy to say that admissions to all screenings are free with an RSVP here. Films that will be showcased include the works of Turkey's leading filmmakers such as FATIH AKIN, OMER VARGI, NURI BILGE CEYLAN, CAGAN IRMAK, YAVUZ TURGUL, and others who have attained both national and international recognition.
The program in NYC will include 7 films, beginning with the very compelling
BAYRAMPASA (THE PRISONERS). Shot in a real prison, the film is acted and
written by the prisoners themselves.
Other highlights of the series include KABADAYI (LOVE AND HONOR). Written by
the celebrated screenwriter YAVUZ TURGUL and directed by OMER VARGI, the film was a major box office hit in Turkey last year. The leading actor of the film and Turkish film icon SENER SEN will be in attendance.
MUTLULUK (BLISS) based on the novel by ZULFI LIVANELI and directed by ABDULLAH OGUZ, won several awards at many domestic and international film festivals. At the 44th Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival BLISS was awarded "Best Music", "Best Actor" and "Best Actress" and received the Official Prize at the Montpellier International Film Festival as well as the award for "Best Film" at the Funchal International Film Festival. Leading Actress OZGU NAMAL will be at the screening.
Also scheduled to be shown is ULAK (THE MESSENGER), a new release directed by
CAGAN IRMAK. CAGAN IRMAK became one of Turkey's prominent young film directors and his previous film, BABAM VE OGLUM (MY FATHER AND MY SON), was one of the biggest box office successes of all time in Turkey. CAGAN IRMAK will attend the screening.
Also featured will be first time filmmakers: 120 directed by OZHAN EREN & MURAT SARACOGLU and BEYNELMILEL (THE INTERNATIONAL) directed by SIRRI SUREYYA ONDER & MUHARREM GULMEZ. We are pleased to showcase these promising new talents.
The finale of the series will feature METIN ERKSAN and DAVID E. DURSTON' s
unforgettable Turkish classic SUSUZ YAZ (DRY SUMMER) SUSUZ YAZ was the first
Turkish film ever awarded Best Film at the Berlin Film Festival and remains one of Turkey's best films. Lead actress HULYA KOCYIGIT will be attending the screening.

"The Prisoners" is a story about an ordinary man who is wrongly convicted and sentenced to jail indefinitely. Erdem is a married man with one child who makes his living working as a hairdresser. One day bad luck strikes him when he suddenly meets up with an old friend Ahmet, a drug dealer who is under
police surveillance. Upon arrest, Erdem is accused of being Ahmet's accomplice
and he finds himself being persecuted under false charges. This film explores
the tragic and humorous side of Erdem's two years spent trying to convince
others of his innocence and gain back his freedom.

120 is based on a real story that takes place in the city of Van in 1914 during World War I. During the Battle of Sarikamis, troops from the Ottoman Empire, fighting against Russia, run out of ammunition. 120 boys between the ages of 12-17 volunteer to march out from Van. Their courage takes them through mountains and harsh winter conditions, marching for several days through the snow to transport the needed ammunition back to the city of Sarikamis. Upon their return they are faced with the harsh climate and a surprise attack by the Hunchaks; only 22 of the 120 boys survive. This film is about courage, honor and sacrifice of 120 children who fought for their country.

In 1982, following a coup d'etat, martial law ruled throughout Turkey. The International "Beynelminel" is a film about a group of struggling local musicians in Adiyaman, a region of southeastern Anatolia, who one day decide to break a military enforced curfew and end up in jail. The commander in charge of the regional martial law decides to start up a "modern orchestra" with these local street musicians. They are getting ready to perform during a welcoming ceremony for members of the National Military Council, who are passing through their town. Our hero, Haydar, a university student, is planning a protest demonstration and Gulendam, daughter of Abuzer, the conductor of the "modern orchestra", is helping him. Their plans are disrupted when a surprise occurs and everything does not turn out the way they expected.

The film takes place in the Aegean coast of Turkey where we follow the lives
of Osman and Hasan, two brothers caught up in a bitter love triangle involving
the same woman. Osman, A scheming tobacco farmer, sets out to ruin his
competition by diverting the local water to his own property. He also tries to
violate his own sister-in-law while her husband is away. The film explores the
old traditions of farmers who struggle with greed, lust and honor.
